Two guys with clear ideas and an innate flair for creati vity. Here are Frankie Morello , or rather, Maurizio Modica and Pierfrancesco Gigliotti . On these pages the two explosive designers reveal the path which led to the launch of the new line Frankie Morello Athletic, a collection created for those who want to be glamorous even when playing sports.  (with illustrations by Cristiana de Zanche & Pietro Gaudenzi)

                                       

Frankie Morello Athletic, the brand’s new approach to the world of fitness. How did the idea come about?    

We felt the urge to expand our reference market by creating a collection which was not identified as a second line but instead has its own distinctive traits.Designed for clients who love the world of working out and sports, Frankie Morello Athletic is a tribute to the comfort-fashion alliance, as it unites technical devices for physical activity with a glamorous aesthetic for everyday life.    

What is your relationship with sport?    

We are both great sports enthusiasts. We dedicate a good part of our time to it whenever we can. It is one of the best ways to deal with stress and the frenzy of daily life.   

Two souls in one brand. What creative aspects unite you and which ones divide you? 

People say that “two heads are better than one” and this is exactly our case. The ideas are born; they collide, mix and finally merge to create the result. Every item in our collections is the result of a metaproject, which is the union of various aspects and inspirations without one prevailing over the other in a dictatorial way.

What are the strategies that make your brand a standard for your fans and customers? 

Our clients are not passive to the brand’s proposals. This is why we try to maintain a constant, direct relationship with consumers. Our profile on Facebook, Myspace and the brand-new Frankly blog enable us to communicate our vision of life, and to build a direct, partner relationship with our “fans“. We don’t want to seem unapproachable and detached! 

What do you expect from the launch of this new line?  

The aim of Frankie Morello Athletic is to attract new customers. With this new line we turn to a market not only made up of the so-called ‘fashion addicted’, but more in general those people who love dressing in comfortable clothes without appearing ungainly or awkward.  

Tell us the must-have item in your wardrobe. 

Maurizio: a vital item for me is an extremely thin navy blue v-neck t-shirt. I can’t do without it because I love dressing simply. 

Piero: I have to have low-crotch tightbottomed jeans. Jeans save you in any situation. 

For more than 10 years now you have been protagonists on the Milan catwalks. Do you still have any dreams to realize?  

It may be banal and obvious, but our dream is to live in absolute tranquility in a house on the shore. 

Do you plan to open any more flagship store in addition to the Milan shop?   

We certainly plan to increase the presence of our flagships in the world within the next few years, starting from the most renowned capitals such as Paris, London, New York and Dubai.   

What person from the past would you have liked to dress?   

Cleopatra, a perfect mix of femininity and power.
